We are always in communication with the Universe. The Universe is constantly sending us messages; most of us just aren’t listening. But when we ask, we always receive. So, we can always ask for a sign from the Universe that we’re on the right path, and that we’re going in the right direction.
I recently received an amazing work opportunity that will allow me to connect with, coach, and serve more people. (I’m not going to share the specifics of this opportunity right now, but I promise to do so in a few weeks!). I wasn’t actively pursuing this opportunity, and it came as a complete surprise (albeit an awesome one!) to me. Pursuing this opportunity is a HUGE leap out of my comfort zone. However, as I travel along my journey of spiritual growth and transformation, I’ve learned to be open to unexpected invitations from the Universe.
I’ve also learned that, despite all my personal development and mindset work, I still have an inner mean girl. It’s the nasty, self-sabotaging voice of fear and self-doubt in my head saying, “Who are you to do this?” and “What do you have to offer?” Over the last few years, I’ve worked on her. A lot. I’ve embraced the little girl in her that is hurting and afraid. I’ve hated her, and I’ve had compassion for her (btw- having compassion for her feels way better). I’ve listened to her, and I’ve pushed her aside. And I’ve noticed that she gets bent out of shape for different things, depending on what season of life I’m in. And, of course, she’s been all up in my business since I received this amazing work opportunity.
So, I decided to ask the Universe for a sign that this divinely-inspired opportunity has come to me at exactly the right time, and that I need to embrace and own it because the Universe only gives us what we can handle.
The Universe’s response was: Who are you NOT to do this? And it came to me via two turtles. Let me explain.
A few days after I received the call about this opportunity, I was driving home from the gym and saw a turtle in the middle of the road just a few blocks from my house. It’s very common to see ducks, geese, birds, and dogs in my neighborhood, but I’d never seen a turtle in the nearly three years that we’ve lived here. As an animal lover, I squealed with delight when I saw the cute little guy (of course I also stopped my car in the middle of the road, flipped on my emergency hazards, and got him out of the street).
Then, last week I was walking in my neighborhood and listening to one of my favorite podcasts when I spotted something on the sidewalk ahead of me: another turtle!! I bent down and said hello to him, and then continued with my walk.
Two turtle sightings in two weeks wasn’t mere coincidence. It had to mean something. So, when I got home from my walk, I googled “What is the spiritual meaning of turtles?” It turns out that turtles are a symbol of longevity, endurance, persistence, and the continuation of life (sometimes against incredible odds). The turtle is also a great symbol for being fearless in the face of the unknown.
Message received, Universe. Loud and clear: Regret is far worse than risk. Take a leap toward your dreams and have the courage to be uncomfortable.
When we allow ourselves to tune into the wonder and magnificence of the guidance that is around us and within us, that’s when we truly start living. So, ask the Universe for a sign. And truly listen. And then take spiritually-aligned action from that place of wisdom.
